I work at The Ecology Centre and I’m in my 2nd month of my 15 month apprenticeship. It couldn’t be going any better!
Which young Scot inspires you?
Jay Thomson – Musician/Prison Outreach Worker- Jay has done a lot in 5 years to change his life for the best. He went from being homeless, eating out of bins to having a voice and being a REAL inspiration for young people like me and many more. His words “go from nothing – to something”, really made me think.
What is the best thing about growing up in Scotland?
It’s hard to give just one reason, as there are so many. The main one is the diverse acceptance of making other cultures feel part of our country and Scotland. Another great thing about growing up in Scotland is our amazing – ‘just get on with it’ attitude.
What would you most like people from older generations to know about young people?
A lot of young people mess up and take the wrong path in life, but they can change. All they need is someone to show them belief and direction – everything else comes with it.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest achievement to date is maturing – LOL! I have grown up and the way I look at situations and resolve matters now is greatly better than what my past behaviours and actions were like.
What would you most like to achieve in the future?
I would love to be a mentor for someone with similar previous circumstances and outlook on life to me. I want to help change the challenging youth for the better. It can change and it will be done!
What message would you like to give to other young people in Scotland?
Mind over matter – your main focus should be ‘be yourself’. What is yours will come in time and you need to be patient. Also do not take life too seriously as you will never get out alive!
