Which young Scot inspires you?
Sharon Rooney is a Young Scot who inspires me. Sharon is a friend of mine who is an actress. She stared in the TV show, “My Mad Fat Diary” which discussed issues young people with mental health face daily.
What is the best thing about growing up in Scotland?
Growing up in Scotland I have been lucky enough to not have to be scared about voicing my opinion on topics such as politics and education. I feel lucky to be able to have conversations that are important to me and be able to voice my opinion freely.
What would you most like people from older generations to know about young people?
I would like people from older generations to know that young people are important and that we have valid points and good knowledge of what we care about. I would like them to know that we care about our country and we want to make positive changes and do our best for Scotland.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest achievement to date was being discharged from hospital in March 2017. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and I have spent the past 6 years just continually being in and out of hospital, but at the moment i have had 8 full months at home which is the longest since I had my first admission in 2012.
What would you most like to achieve in the future?
I would like to be able to help other young people who suffer with their mental health. I would like to be the person I needed when I was younger. I am already beginning my journey to that as I have been a volunteer befriender to the same young person for a full year now.
What message would you like to give to other young people in Scotland?
It’s okay to ask for help, and you will be okay.
